The monthly report, without the site walk

Every month somebody has to show the client what happened. The usual answer is a walk round with a phone and a handful of photos that don’t match last month’s, taken from wherever there happened to be room to stand. Six months on, when a subcontractor’s claim or a delay is in dispute, nobody can say for certain what the site looked like on the day.

A fixed-view aerial record fixes both problems at once. The same positions, the same headings, the same heights, every visit. The photographs line up, the dates are on them, and the whole site fits in one frame.

• This month beside last month. Each fixed view delivered as a side-by-side with the previous visit, dated. The image that goes in the report.

How often

• Monthly. The usual choice. Lines up with the valuation and the client report; twelve comparable records over a year’s build.
• Fortnightly. For the fast stages: groundworks, frame, envelope. Where a month is too long between records.
• Milestone-based. Groundworks, frame up, weathertight, complete. Fewer visits, each one at a point that matters. Suits steel packages.
• One-off. A single dated record of the site as it stands. For a report, a dispute file, or to see whether the monthly version is worth having.

How it works

1. Tell us about the site. Postcode, what’s being built, how long the programme is, and when your reporting date falls. We come back with a figure the same day.
2. First visit. We fly the site, save the positions, and you get the first record within 24 hours. No commitment beyond that visit.
3. Repeat at the interval you chose. Same positions every time. We aim to deliver two working days before your reporting date so the record is in the report, not after it.
4. The map grows. Every visit adds a layer. By the end of the programme the client has the whole build, in order, from the same views.

Getting on site

Certificate of insurance supplied before the first visit, with higher limits arranged where the site requires them. A risk assessment and method statement supplied on request. Questions

How often should a site be recorded?

Monthly for most programmes; it matches the valuation cycle and gives twelve comparable records over a year. Fortnightly for the fast stages. If you’re not sure, start with one visit and decide from there.

What if it rains on the day?

We rebook at no charge, and we’ll call you the day before if the forecast looks wrong, so nobody makes a wasted journey.

How quickly do I get the images?

Within 24 hours of the visit. Stills edited; video as graded clips.

Can I use them in a valuation or a dispute?

Yes. Every image is dated and taken from a saved position, and the map records where it was taken from. That is the point of doing it this way.

Do you need to come onto the site?

Usually yes, for the induction and the take-off position. Where the site can be recorded from outside the boundary, we’ll say so.

What does it cost?

It depends on the size of the site, how often you want it recorded and how long the programme runs. Tell us those three things and we’ll give you a figure the same day. Drone Site UK is not VAT registered, so the figure we give you is the figure on the invoice.

Do you work weekends?

Saturdays by arrangement, at a weekend rate. Useful when the site is quiet enough to fly properly.
